Birthday fit for a king

My name is Suzanne, and I love Elvis.

I don’t remember how the fascination began. My dad, perhaps? Laura? In our family, we have a thing for Elvis. A velvet portrait, complete with glistening teardrop, hung in the basement of our home. And plenty of memorabilia graces the walls and shelves of my folks’ bonus room today. There’s just something about him. The music, the swagger, the curled lip.

When we drove Laura out to California about 10 years ago, Graceland was top on our list of stops. And, let me just say it did not disappoint. Carpet on the walls, animal prints everywhere, giant stained glass peacocks. Polyester heaven.

Elvis turns 75 today. And I know wherever he is, the party is raging.

  1. I like to think he’s sitting somewhere, turtleneck sweater on, strumming his guitar with one hand and eating a jelly donut with the other. Happy Birthday King! Thank you, thank you very much for your rockin’ tunes!

  2. I went through I serious Elvis-loving phase as a kid. And I am not sure where it came form cause I don’t come from a particularly Elvissy family.
