Happiness is: quiet

You don’t want to know the sounds that have filled our home in the last 24 hours.

Some sort of stomach virus is ripping its way through. First, Sophie. She woke crying last night, covered in vomit (smiling, if you can believe it). We thought maybe she’d triggered her gag reflex by sucking on her fists.

Lily threw up her breakfast and hasn’t been able keep down even the smallest sips of Pedialyte. Two small ice cubes before she collapsed into bed at 6:30 seem to be staying down.

Then, poor Marc. His sickness has been the most violent of all. He’s passed out on the couch as I type.

Me? I’ve been spared so far.

I cautiously ate a very bland dinner (after giving serious consideration to which foods wouldn’t be too awful coming back up), and I’ve been washing my hands like mad. Also spraying Lysol like a crazy lady.

So today is one of those days that makes it difficult to find happiness. But I have. Just a bit.

Lily and Sophie are sleeping soundly right now, and the worst seems to be over for Marc.

Our home is quiet. Finally.

  1. Love this post. So true. Quiet feels like a victory. Hope your momma immunity kicks in and you stay well. I’m actually writing on a post on things to eat when the stomach is rocky. Two pregnancies–>unfortunate expertise. 🙂

  2. Ugh…that is the absolute pits.
I am so sorry that you guys are all attacked.
But peace and quiet is a blessing.
    Soak that all up Momma.

  3. Ugh, that sounds like my house a couple weeks ago. First my almost 4 year old son, then hubby then me the Friday before Christmas, fortunately the 8 month old was spared. Also luckily it only lasted an average of 12-18 hours per person. Hope you get skipped on this one.
