Thank you Smart Balance Kids for sponsoring this post. Join us on Facebook for healthful eating tips & tricks, recipes, coupons and more!

We love smoothies. The end.

One of Lily’s favorite “stay home mommy day” rituals is to make smoothies. She thinks they’re milkshakes (which they are, kind of). I love that she’s getting a whopping dose of calcium, protein, vitamins and antioxidants. And, making them with Smart Balance® Kids Reduced Fat Milk & Nutrient Blend adds even more good stuff for little bodies.

The best part? Lily can make the whole thing herself.

And lick the spoon in between steps. Because of course.

Here’s the recipe for our latest concoction:

– 2 cups vanilla yogurt
– 2 cups frozen mango/berries
– 1 banana
– 1/2 cup milk

We make ours a little on the runny side so that Miss Sophie can partake. To thicken up your smoothie, just cut back on the milk or freeze the banana for a couple of hours before blending.

Our blender is a hand-me-down from Marc’s grandparents. I have no idea how old it is, but that thing works like nobody’s business. I love it.

And here’s the recipe (for one person — multiply as needed) for one of our other favorite smoothies, The Elvis:

– one partially frozen banana (2-3 hours in freezer)
– 2 TBS peanut butter
– splash of milk

YUMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe? We’re always looking for new things to toss into Poppy’s blender. And if you’d like to enter to win a container of Smart Balance Kids Milk, just leave a comment below. Free milk! More smoothies! Yay!

Sponsored posts are purely editorial content that we are pleased to have presented by a participating sponsor. Advertisers do not produce the content. As a Smart Balance Kids Milk ambassador, I was compensated for this post and was given milk vouchers to review. My opinions are always honest. This giveaway ends on Wednesday, Nov. 21. I’ll announce the winner that evening (before we swap smoothies for turkey and stuffing).

Giveaway: North American Bear Company

plush toys

Meet Duckie.

Duckie the Elephant.

He is Small Fry’s new favorite thing. When she pulled him from the North American Bear Company box, she declared “I always loved him!”

And his name? I like to think she was genetically predisposed to make a Pretty in Pink reference. But more likely, she just had ducks on the brain and decided that would be the perfect fit for her new friend.

Duckie’s large size and unique shape make him easy to squeeze. And lie on top of. And tumble with on the floor. He is sooooo soft and well-made. In fact, one of the first things I tried to do (ala Marge Simpson and Fretful Mom) was remove the ribbon from around his neck, for fear of Small Fry working it off and choking. Much to my surprise, the ribbon is securely sewn onto Duckie, so it won’t budge. Not even for a wily toddler.

Duckie goes with Small Fry to the potty. Outside to blow bubbles. Even to the grocery store (where she announced that he loves cheese as much as she does). They are constant companions. Case in point:

toddler snuggling with plush toy

The folks at North American Bear Company were sweet enough to throw in a small Flatophant for Baby Sunshine. So now Small Fry has the perfect gift to take to the hospital for her new brother or sister. Such thoughtfulness and attention to detail aren’t usually the hallmarks of toy companies (in my experience), so it’s been a real treat to work with Sam and the gang at North American Bear Company.

The best part of all this? YOU could win a Duckie of your own! Or a platypus, frog, cow, hippo (among others) … whatever your little one’s heart desires. And I also think these lovies would make wonderful baby shower gifts.

To win the large Flatso of your choice, just check out the North American Bear Company website and tell us which Flatso you’d choose.

For extra chances to win, you can do any of the following (leave a separate comment for each):

– Like North American Bear Co. on Facebook
– Follow North American Bear Co. on Twitter
– Like pretty*swell on Facebook

This giveaway ends at noon on Friday, April 8, 2011. I’ll choose the winner at random. Have fun!

We were given two Flatophants by North American Bear Co. to review. I received no compensation for my opinions. Which are always my own. And are always honest.

This is it!

Today is the final day of our Handmade Holiday giveaway. And it’s going out with a bang, thanks to Erin from Hot Pink and Sequins.

She’s offering up a winner’s choice! You can pick from a gorgeous ruby red hair clip (or lapel pin) made from repurposed satin OR these too-cute-for-words teeny legwarmers WITH POCKETS. For stuff. They’ll best fit kids ages two to six, and they’re made from recycled chenille so they’re extra cozy. We are the first to see Erin’s new legwarmers! Lucky us.

There are all sorts of beautiful new things in Erin’s shop, perfect for the holiday party season. I’m a fan of her luxe oversized “Queen” poppy pin made from recycled red leather and her new “Plumeria Goddess” headband.

I get compliments every single time I wear my leather poppy earrings. They’re definitely one of a kind!

To enter this giveaway, just leave a comment below telling us your favorite winter activity. Since there’s a bit of snow on the ground here today, I imagine we’ll soon be outside scraping together a pint-sized snowman. Playing in the snow with Small Fry is just too much fun.

For extra chances to win (please leave a separate comment for each):

> “Like” Hot Pink and Sequins on Facebook
> Follow Hot Pink and Sequins on Twitter

Isn’t this the cutest little bag?

And I’m not just saying that because Laura made it.

She gave me one for Christmas last year, and I love it. It’s the perfect carry-all for date night, or as is more often the case, to stuff into the diaper bag. My favorite part is the chunky button.

Laura used an Amy Karol design called “Artsy Clutch.” I think “Super Fabulous Adorable Clutch” is more fitting, but that’s just me.

To win this lovely bag, just leave a comment below telling us your favorite holiday tune. So many to choose from! Mine is a toss-up between Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” (that voice!) and “Christmas in Hollis” by Run-DMC (momma’s cooking chicken and collard greens). Classic.

For extra chances to win the cutest clutch, you can do any of the following (be sure to leave separate comments for each):

– Subscribe to Laura’s lovely blog, chock full of
– Follow chock full of on Twitter

This giveaway ends at noon Monday, Dec. 20. I’ll choose the winner at random and announce that afternoon. Have fun! And … have you entered to win a custom print from Sweetpea Prints? Go!  Now!

Without the awesome little community that’s formed here, this blog simply would be floating in space. Thank you for reading. Thank you for tolerating photo after photo after photo of my child. Thank you for your comments. Your love.

You’re the best!

As a small token of my (immense) appreciation, I’ve called on our lovely sponsors and one very special guest to host a “Handmade Holiday” giveaway for y’all this week. A bit of a step up from last year’s “gift” of self-deprecation, no?

To kick things off, Liz from Sweetpea Prints is offering one lucky reader a custom print of your choice!

I adore her new “Brush your teeth” and “Read me a story” prints. And her custom nursery prints and birth announcements are so creative. Small Fry loves her monkey print! Liz’s work is top-notch, and she is just as friendly as can be.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment below telling us your all-time favorite holiday food. Mine? Peppermint ice cream.

For extra chances to win, you can do any of the following (be sure to leave a separate comment for each):

And, because Liz is so generous, she’s offering a special deal for all pretty*swell readers: BUY ONE PRINT, GET ONE FREE!! How awesome is that? To redeem this discount, just leave a comment in your order letting Liz know that you came from pretty*swell.

This giveaway closes at noon Monday, Dec. 20. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce that afternoon. Have fun!

Pear Tree Greetings: holiday giveaway!

I am already so excited about Christmas, I can hardly stand it. There. I said it.

Yes, I’m one of those people.

Seeing the holiday displays at Target in October gave me a secret thrill. And this is the longest I’ve waited to start listening to holiday music. Pity my husband. Seriously. He has to live with this.

So it goes without saying that I’m thrilled to offer you an awesome giveaway from Pear Tree Greetings. One lucky reader will win a $30 gift card!

Pear Tree has a gorgeous collection of holiday cards. Pictured above are some of my favorites. They’ve also designed a beautiful collection that benefits the American Cancer Society. One hundred percent of sales goes to the ACS. And, through Pear Tree’s Operation Gratitude, teachers can work with their students to decorate cards for members of the military. How wonderful is that?

I can’t wait to pick out our Pear Tree Christmas card. That is, after we take the perfect family portrait this weekend. Dreaming big.

To enter to win this giveaway, just leave a comment below with your all-time favorite holiday movie. Mine? An even tie between Christmas Vacation and White Christmas. Love me some Bing Crosby.

For extra chances to win, you can do any of the following (be sure to leave a separate comment for each):

– Follow Pear Tree Greetings on Twitter
– Like Pear Tree Greetings on Facebook
– Like pretty*swell on Facebook
– Tweet about this giveaway, using @pretty_swell and @PearTreeGrtngs

This giveaway ends at noon on Monday, Nov. 29. I’ll choose the winner at random and announce that afternoon. Have fun!

My third note in the Pen to Paper challenge was a no-brainer. I have a very good friend who is going through a very hard time right now.

She lives nearby. We have lunch often. But still. Letters aren’t only for long-distance friends, right?

I really hope that my little envelope in her mailbox will bring, at the very least, a brief moment of happiness.

And speaking of happiness, I’m really excited for our very first Pear Tree Greetings giveaway!

Aren’t these Halloween stickers adorable?

Two sheets (a total of 24) personalized stickers could be yours!

There are a bunch of other designs, and I think they’d be fun on party favors or treats for school. The stickers also coordinate with Pear Tree’s funky line of Halloween invitations. Love!

To enter this giveaway, just leave a comment below telling us your best Halloween costume ever.

For extra chances to win, you can do any of the following. Be sure to leave an extra comment for each:

> Follow Pear Tree Greetings on Twitter
