Toddlerista: life, Liberty and the pursuit of cuteness

When Liberty of London hit Target this spring, I was one of those nutty women snatching up pretty much everything I could find. A lamp, a clutch and, best of all, this adorable dress. I just love the contrasting (yet complimentary, no?) patterns. And those RUFFLES!

Laura’s birthday party was the perfect excuse to wrangle Small Fry into that dress. Because, y’all know, she is anything but a dress girl.

She did love her little purse, though. Reminds me of the ones my mom used to carry. I think Mom made some of her own fabric covers, in fact. Laura still carries some wood-handled purses, including one of mom’s oldies, and they are too cute.

Small Fry stuffed it with all sorts of treasures: about two dozen hair elastics, her mini Dora doll + blankie, and a couple of my bobby pins. Here, she does a little handbag modeling for us:

There are SO many tragically adorable little girl shoes out there. My favorites are the jellies and the strappy sandals that look like miniature versions of grown-up shoes. But, y’all, I just can’t buy them for her. Every single pair I pick up (mostly at Target and Old Navy) is made of really hard materials which I’m afraid would give her blisters or prevent her from arching her foot properly when she walks.

PLUS, she fights me on new shoes. I’m lucky she let me strap these sandals onto her feet.

They’re comfy AND chic. Just like my new BFF Clinton Kelly advised.

And, there’s something to be said for little girl shoes that look like little girl shoes, right?

I snapped this shot just after we got out of the car from Laura’s birthday dinner. The light was so lovely. Small Fry had pulled out her ponytail, and her hair was one giant tangle. But you can’t tell so much from behind:

Dress: Liberty of London for Target

  1. Oh my GOODNESS! That dress (and your daughter, of course) are so cute it’s enough to become spontaneously pregnant, as long as there’s a girl in there. 😉

My three year old niece (well, 3 on Sunday!) is in a big purse phase right now, too. She’s SO PROUD to have her little things in there. It’s just too much seeing her with that strap on her shoulder so primly!

  2. If this bebeh isn’t a girl I’m trading it in for one IMMEDIATELY. I’m dying of cute.

I bought half a dozen Liberty of London things too, including the giant purse I used instead of a diaper bag and it makes me happy every time I look at it.

  3. Love Small Fry’s dress (and purse and shoes)! My mom had those wood handle purses too. I wish she still did!

  4. Oh my word! She is too stinkin’ cute!

  5. I can’t get over Small Fry. She is so adorable and reminds me SO MUCH of my own baby girl! Of course, she has Liberty of London stuff from Target and the Mac make-up at Belk that has those designs on them! Good thing Small Fry isn’t that age yet ;D

  6. I love her dress. My daughter would love it too, she’s such a girly girl. I wish we had a Target in Canada. It makes me sad that we don’t.

    • Marilyn: Say it ain’t so!! No Target? I would DIE.

  7. So, so adorable!I loved all of the Liberty stuff as well. The purse is a Bermuda bag, and I had a few of them as a little girl. My Mom made me covers too. I actually have a big girl one now!

Your blog is so much fun! I’m glad I found you!

  8. Hi Small Fry,

Could I please borrow your adorable dress? I promise I will return it soon. Next summer.

    Love,
    andrea

P.S. Yes, I know it’s too small for me, but maybe I can wear it as a shirt?

    (Please say YES.)

  9. I have to admit I bought one of the LOL ties in the men’s section last week…on clearance for $5! Gotta love a deal like that 🙂
