When Liberty of London hit Target this spring, I was one of those nutty women snatching up pretty much everything I could find. A lamp, a clutch and, best of all, this adorable dress. I just love the contrasting (yet complimentary, no?) patterns. And those RUFFLES!

Laura’s birthday party was the perfect excuse to wrangle Small Fry into that dress. Because, y’all know, she is anything but a dress girl.

She did love her little purse, though. Reminds me of the ones my mom used to carry. I think Mom made some of her own fabric covers, in fact. Laura still carries some wood-handled purses, including one of mom’s oldies, and they are too cute.

Small Fry stuffed it with all sorts of treasures: about two dozen hair elastics, her mini Dora doll + blankie, and a couple of my bobby pins. Here, she does a little handbag modeling for us:

There are SO many tragically adorable little girl shoes out there. My favorites are the jellies and the strappy sandals that look like miniature versions of grown-up shoes. But, y’all, I just can’t buy them for her. Every single pair I pick up (mostly at Target and Old Navy) is made of really hard materials which I’m afraid would give her blisters or prevent her from arching her foot properly when she walks.

PLUS, she fights me on new shoes. I’m lucky she let me strap these sandals onto her feet.

They’re comfy AND chic. Just like my new BFF Clinton Kelly advised.

And, there’s something to be said for little girl shoes that look like little girl shoes, right?

I snapped this shot just after we got out of the car from Laura’s birthday dinner. The light was so lovely. Small Fry had pulled out her ponytail, and her hair was one giant tangle. But you can’t tell so much from behind:
